WHAT IS LECA, Light Expanded Clay Aggregate?
LECA means Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate which is produced by bloating clay with high temperature in a rotary kiln under temperature 1200~1500 degree C. LECA is round and extremely light in weight.
Its dense exterior shell and porous interior structure provides outstanding insulating properties. LECA aggregate is stable building material being inert to corrosion by acid, chemically neutral, not attacked by fungi, non-absorbent and frost resistant.
APPLICATIONS
LECA can applies widely for:

- Pre-cast panel / Unit bath / Facade
- Building blocks
- Composite section construction
- For example a 40mm x 200mm x 75mm thickness LECA hollow block with density 750kg/m3 is ideal for use as partition wall, sound insulation, heat insulator and moist barrier

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LECA LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE/CONCRETE
Usages and requirement of LECA lightweight concrete is similar to those of the normal concrete.
The structure of LECA lightweight concrete is similar to the normal concrete, mixing with LECA sand (or light sand), cement and water. With proper and sufficient vibration, low air content exist within LECA lightweight concrete and this can also against the corrosion of steel reinforcement. Suitable additives can be added into LECA aggregate concrete.
LECA aggregates are the type of clay which are expanded at extremely high temperature, a outer hard layer and inner spongy structure made weighting only 300 to 350kg/m3, just about 1/6 of stone aggregate but with high compressive strength.
Clay is produced at extremely high temperature and can be the texture of pottery, is neural, durable. Even at high temperature, it will not depart from each other and not evolve toxic gases such that it is good for the production of construction aggregates.
The normal concrete weighs 2400kg/m3 with (different cement content) 15 to 40MPa compressive strength.
While LECA lightweight concrete weighs 600 to 1750kg/m3 with (different cement content) 5 to 60MPa compressive strength.
The LECA aggregate produced complies with the BS 3797-1990 Standards for overseas sales. LECA can solve problem of overloading, fire resistance and heat transfer pottery is durable, cheaper, environmental friendly and easy producible, LECA aggregates are widely used in pre-cast walls, lightweight concrete, pre-cast concrete cubes, small-sized lightweight blocks even applicable in planting.
